Process and Product Development Centre for technological up-gradation of small scale castings & forging industries was set up at Agra in the later half of 1985 with the assistance of Govt. of India, Govt. Of U.P. & UNDP/UNIDO. Initially, it was a Government setup under SIDO and later converted into an autonomous body w.e.f. 21st July, 1986. The affairs of the centre are managed by a Governing Council under the chairmanship of AS & DC (SSI). The Principal Director is the chief executive of the centre. Testing-chemical, metallurgical & non destructive testing of ferrous & non ferrous metals and engineering components. testing of raw materials/engineering products/building material conforming to indian and international standards. defect investigation and failure analysis of engineering components. third party inspection of engineering components.;foundry-development of import substitute & intricate cast components out of ferrous & non-ferrous metals such as, alloy-cast irons, s. g. irons including ni-resist, s.s., plain carbon, low & high alloy steels including corrosion and heat resistant steels, al & cu alloys. development & supply of metallic, wooden & epoxy patterns. investment casting of intricate products.;forge shop-development of critical forged components for automobiles, defense, agricultural & engineering industries. open die forgings, such as shafts, gears, blanks, tools etc.;machine shop-precision machining of engineering components. dies for sheet metal and forged components.;heat treatment shop-normalizing, annealing, stress relieving, hardening & tempering of engineering components. heat treatment of aluminum and copper alloy components. salt bath heat treatment.;ncvt approved training courses in copa and technical trades like modular, mechanical draughtsman.;training in advance cad/cam software such as auto cad, pro-e, unigraphics;advance cad/ cam & master cad/cam courses in collaboration with citd, hyderabad.;short term training programmes (stp) for supervisory and workmen employed in foundry and forging industries. ;skill development programme (sdp)/ entrepreneurship development training programme (edp) on a sting, forging and testing.; training of corporate years / merchant exporters on casting and forgings.;consultancy-assist in product development & process improvement in small scale casting & forging industries. design, development and installation of fuel efficient divided blast cupola furnaces. design, development and installation of air pollution abatement systems retrofitted over cupola, induction furnaces & forge stock reheating furnaces. bankable techno-economic feasibility reports for new foundry and forging industries. modernization and diversification studies for existing small scale foundry & forging units. turnkey projects for establishing foundry & forging unit.;cluster development activities-carrying out diagnostic/process study. preparation of project proposal and project implementation for setting up of cfc. capacity building of entrepreneurs & artisans of the cluster through focused training. assistance in cluster development activities in the country required for preparation of detailed diagnostic report to setting up of common demo project including imparting training to entrepreneurs and artisans.
