Municipal Corporation Amritsar

Amritsar was declared a city on 29th March 1977 under the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act 1976 and the Municipal Corporation was constituted in place of Municipal Committee. The City of Amritsar got a Town Committee in 1858 and a Municipal Committee in 1868. The first election to the Municipal Corporation was held in 1991 and the city was divided into 50 wards. Sh. O.P Soni was elected as Mayor on 25th June 1991, S. Raminder Singh Bularia as Sr. Deputy Mayor and Sh. Subash Sharma as Deputy Mayor. The elected corporation was dissolved on 18th June 1996. The number of wards was increased to 60 and the elections were held on 28th May 1997 Sh. Subash Sharma, S. Lakha Singh and Kumari Raj Sharma were elected as Mayor, Sr. Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively. On the resignation of Sh. Subash Sharma Sh.
