Murphy&Nye is one of the oldest and most prestigious brands in international yachting. Its origins date back to 1933, when Jim Murphy and Harry Nye Jr. founded the Murphy & Nye sail loft in Chicago, which will become one of the reference points in the world of competitive sailing for over five decades. It was the 1950s when the first Murphy&Nye garments were born in the Elston Avenue loft: handcrafted with the same techniques and the same materials as the sails, they were a proud homage to the owner by the sailmakers who in the previous weeks had made the sails of his yacht. A tradition that continued until the 1980s, when a small shop attached to the sail loft was opened in the Italian headquarters of the sail loft in La Spezia, which in the meantime had acquired the brand from the American company.
