The Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society is located in the original 18th-century birthplace & childhood home of Noah Webster, Jr., author of landmark educational publications; the Blue-Backed Speller (1783) and the American Dictionary of the English Language (1828). Webster was an education reformer, political activist, lawyer and an early abolitionist. In 1785, he published Sketches of American Policy which outlined his vision for a strong Federal government, and what would become the blueprint for the United States Constitution, ratifed four years later.
