Northeast Normal University is an institution of higher learning under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education, given priority under the 211 Project. NENUs predecessor is Northeast University. It was the first comprehensive university founded by the Communist Party in Northeast China in 1946. The school was renamed Northeast Normal University according to the development needs of national education in 1950
