National Service Scheme NSS, a scheme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India. It was initiated in Gandhijis Birth Centenary Year 1969 with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. It is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service while they are studying in colleges and other institutions. NSS emphasizes that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole. What does NSS Symbol symbolize The NSS symbol is based on wheel of rath of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Orissa. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
