The Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC) is responsible for improving how public sector data is used and shared to: promote greater use of public sector data drive innovation and economic, social, and environmental benefits from greater use of public sector data build trust with the Australian community around governments use of data. The Data Availability and Transparency Act 2022 establishes a best practice scheme for sharing Australian government data the DATA Scheme. The DATA Scheme helps approved people and organisations request controlled access to Australian government data. The National Data Commissioner regulates the DATA Scheme, provides advice and guidance about its operation and delivers education and support for best-practice data sharing and handling.
