One Health Laos

One Health is based on the understanding that human health is inextricably linked to the health of animals and the environment. It is a multisectoral approach where health issues at the human-animal- environmental interface are addressed by a collaborative effort of the sectors and disciplines involved in health. One Health is beginning to reach wide acceptance around the world as an efficacious way to combat health-related issues at the human-animal-environment nexus, including, but not limited to, zoonotic diseases. The country of Laos, with the help of many development partners, most notably the European Union, is beginning to see the benefits of One Health by bringing together multiple stakeholders such as specialists in human, animal, environmental health, and other related sectors to study how zoonotic diseases spread among people, animals, and plants within the context of their specific environments.
