The establishment of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad heralds a bright new era for the citizens of Pakistan. Since its opening in 1985, PIMS has been expanding its services and equipment to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. The objectives of PIMS are to provide a tertiary level of care and to serve as a referral hospital to conduct teaching/ training of doctors and other health workers at various levels in the field of medicine and surgery. Islamabad Hospital (IH) is the major component of PIMS. It is a 592-bed hospital, and it has 22 medical and surgical specialties.
