Pastoral Womens Council

Pastoral Womens Council (PWC) is a membership organisation that empowers pastoralist women at the community-level to take control of their own development. PWC serves Ngorongoro, Longido and Monduli Districts in Tanzania. Together the districts cover 28,337 square kms and have a population of over 456,000 people from mainly Maasai but also Sonjo, Tatoga and Hadzabe ethnic communities. Founded in 1997 by 10 women pastoralists, PWC works in 90 villages across the three districts, has over 6,500 women members and collaborates with local, national and international partners.
