Peoples Friendship University was founded on February 5, 1960, by the decision of the USSR Government. On February 22, 1961, the University was named after Patrice Lumumba - one of the symbols of the struggle of the peoples of Africa for independence. On February 5, 1992, by the decision of the Government of Russia, the University was renamed into the Peoples Friendship University of Russia
