Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya is a Central University of India located in the city of Bilaspur in the state of Chhattisgarh. It was founded under the Central Universities Act 2009, No. 25 of 2009. Formerly known as Guru Ghasidas University (GGU), it was formally inaugurated on June 16, 1983, by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly.GGU is a member of both the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university, which is located in a socially and economically difficult neighborhood, is suitably named after the famous Satnami Saint Guru Ghasidas (born in the 17th century), who championed the cause of the oppressed and fought tirelessly against all types of social evils and injustice prevalent in society.
