+ POOL

+ POOL is working to provide free and safe access to the rivers around NYC for swimming. The organization was born out of + POOL, an idea for a water-filtering, floating swimming pool with four pool arms (kids pool, lap pool, lounge pool and sports pool) forming a plus-shape. The pool was designed to filter 1 million gallons of river water a day through the walls of the pool and protect swimmers from currents to provide safe access to urban waters cut off from the public. Since its founding, the organization has led a grassroots advocacy effort to push for safe and increased access to the waters around NYC for swimming, promote healthful recreation and advance environmental justice, while also supporting equitable access to swim education, a lack of which disproportionately impacts minority and low-income communities
