The Private Education Retirement Annuity Association was formally organized on September 2, 1972 with the signing of the Trust Agreement. There were 22 founding members* of PERAA though only 14 institutions, who braved the gloomy weather, made it that night. Established as a private, non-profit, employees trust under the auspices of Fund for Assistance to Private Education, PERAA is the first comprehensive retirement program in the country.
