Recyke ybike was formed in 2006 with 4 main aims: To develop the skills and improve the quality of life of people experiencing social or economic disadvantage the North East of England. To improve the health of the public by promoting cycling and making it affordable. To advance the education of all ages of the public in the safe use, re-use and maintenance of bicycles. The protection and preservation of the environment for the public benefit by saving bicycles from landfill and promoting bicycle re-use and recycling. Over 2,000 bikes are donated each year. Our team of 14 staff and over 40 volunteers sort the donations and either: Clean and fix them up to be sold in the two shops. Currently 80% of income is derived from bike sales and servicing. The average price of a bike sold is 130. Bikes come with a 1 - 3 month guarantee depending on their price. Clean and fix them up to be given away to local people in need.
