Pathology is the science at the heart of modern medicine, vital for the diagnosis and clinical management of disease. It is the science behind the cure, or the hidden science that saves lives. Although some pathologists work in laboratories, many work directly with patients in hospitals and the community. Together they are involved in over 70% of all diagnoses, as well as playing an important role in disease prevention, treatment and monitoring. The College is a professional membership organisation committed to setting and maintaining professional standards and to promoting excellence in the practice of pathology. The College aims to advance the science and practice of pathology, to provide public education, to promote research in pathology and to disseminate the results. It is a registered charity.
