Liam Ryan, an accountant by trade took ownership of his first store in Togher, a suburb on the southside of Cork city on 30th September 1991. It wasnt all plain sailing at the start, he had a tough 12 months when he took over, he soon learned how to work with people and encourage and develop them, he learned that you had to win the confidence of the people, both the people that work with you every day and the public, our customers. What happened next? He opened his second store in Glanmire in February 1996, which first opened as a 3,500 sq. ft. Centra at Riverstown, Glanmire, Cork. Then in May 2000 the store moved to a new location over the bridge and opened a new 11,500 sq. ft SuperValu. In 2003, the Togher store underwent an extension to its current size of 11,000 sq. ft.
