San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus

The San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus leads by creating extraordinary music and experiences that build community, inspire activism, and foster compassion at home and around the world. Founded in 1978, the San Francisco Gay Mens Chorus and is the worlds first chorus to have the word gay in its name. The Chorus first public appearance was on the steps of San Francisco City Hall at the candlelight vigil on the night of the assassination of Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone. In 1981, SFGMC embarked on a nationwide tour that inspired the creation of a global LGBT choral movement that, today, numbers over 250 choruses around the planet. Since these early years, more than 1,500 SFGMC members have volunteered proudly and served as goodwill ambassadors, promoting awareness and understanding of the LGBTQ community through music and the shared experience of performance.
