Shawnee Township Fire Department

The Shawnee Township Fire Department made its first documented run in 1960. How times have changed! Just as society has undergone various changes, so have our services evolved. Initially, the primary focus was to provide fire services to our rapidly growing community. However, by 1974, with the increasing visibility of EMS through the TV show Emergency 51, our department recognized the crucial need to offer this new and lifesaving service, which would prove extremely beneficial to our citizens. Over the years, we have addressed other necessary changes to keep our community protected and safe. In 1978, we established our inspection bureau/fire investigation bureau. Following the Mid-Valley fire in 1983, we acknowledged the need to enhance our firefighting capabilities, especially concerning flammable liquids.
