Founded on November 14, 1919 at the University of California, Berkeley, Sigma Delta Pis primary mission is to honor and support those who excel in the study of the Spanish language and the literature and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. With 630 chapters in 49 states in the U.S., Sigma Delta Pi also hosts an honor society program for 2-year colleges: Sociedad Honoraria de la Lengua Espanola (SHLE)
