South Sudan Women Empowerment Network (SSWEN) is a non-profit, non-partisan, and non-governmental organization founded by one of the prominent leaders in South Sudans womens movement called Lilian Riziq. SWEN was first formed through an electronic list-serve in 2005 and has since emerged as a driver of South Sudanese womens transnational activism. The movement grew and attracted several other women who joined the movement and expanded in its mission. SSWEN focuses on womens empowerment through programs that encourage womens participation in broad-spectrum decision-making and development initiatives, gender, and human rights advocacy.
