Southern Marin Fire District

The Southern Marin Fire Protection District is an independent fire district as defined in the California Administrative Code. The District was created in 1999 by Marin County LAFCO with the consolidation of the Alto-Richardson Bay Fire Protection District and The Tamalpais Fire Protection District. In June of 2012, the City of Sausalito was annexed into the District by a vote of the citizens of Sausalito. The area currently served by the District includes the City of Sausalito, Tamalpais Valley, Homestead Valley, Almonte, Alto Bowl, Strawberry, the western 1/4 of the Town of Tiburon (Bel Aire/Blackfield/Reed Heights) and the National Park areas of Fort Baker and the Marin Headlands. The District is governed by a seven member board of directors who are elected by the residents on four year terms.
