Southwest Minzu University (SMU), located in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is a comprehensive ethnic university directly under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the Peoples Republic of China, It is a comprehensive ethnic university under the State Ethnic Affairs Commission of the Peoples Republic of China, the Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China, the Peoples Government of Sichuan Province and the Peoples Government of Chengdu Municipality. The university is a member of the Yangtze River-Volga River university alliance. The university was one of the first nationalities established by the old proletarian revolutionaries such as Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping and Wang Weizhou under their personal care.
