St. Helens Rugby Football Club is a globally recognised professional Rugby League club based in St. Helens, Merseyside, which was founded in 1873 and plays in the Super League. Nicknamed the Saints, the club is one of the oldest members of the Rugby Football League - in 1895 the club were one of 22 clubs that resigned from the Rugby Football Union and established the Northern Union. Since the inception of Super League in 1996, St. Helens have become the most successful side of the summer era and have won the League Championship and Challenge Cup each on 13 occasions in its history as well the World Club Challenge twice in 2001 and 2007.
