Taipei Bar Association

Legal practice in Taiwan can be traced back to the era of Taiwan under Japanese rule. The Association of Bengoshi with Offices in Taipei was established during this period. After World War II, the Nationalist Government took over the Taiwan High Court and the Taipei District Court on November 1, 1945. On the same day, the Association of Bengoshi with Offices in Taipei and the Jurist Association were reorganised into the Taipei Bar Association (TBA). Subsequently, the statutes and organisational articles of TBA were formulated. It was formally established on August 15, 1947, and was officially registered ten days later. When the TBA was established in 1947, there were only 34 members. Currently, the total number of members has increased to more than 8,000 (including general members, special members, and foreign legal affairs attornies), making it the largest regional bar association in Taiwan.
