More Than A Medal. Currently, there is no national organization advocating and supporting child athlete survivors of sexual violence though the number of survivors in this area is staggering. Three out of four American families with school-aged children have at least one playing an organized sport a total of about 45 million kids (Open Access Journal of Sports Medicine, 2014). According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), over 8 million high school students participate in organized sports (2018). Over 460,000 NCAA student-athletes more than ever before compete in sports at the collegiate level every year (NCAA, 2018). According to Psychology Today Studies report, about 7% of athletes (both minors and young adults) are victims of sexual assault - with elite athletes having higher rates of sexual assault than lower-level athletes.
