The vision of The Childrens Literacy Charity is to close the literacy gap for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Many children continue to struggle to make up for time lost during Covid and lockdowns, and 1 in 5 children in England do not own a book of their own. The current cost of living crisis has also had a further detrimental effect on these children and their families. Schools are operating under immense pressure and tell us more children than ever before need specialist support to catch up. We feel our work is needed more than ever and your support will help us to close the literacy gap for those children who start behind in life. Better literacy fuels motivation, resilience and self esteem and paves the way for learning. Closing the literacy gap opens up a world of opportunities for a child.
