The Ilkhom Theatre

The Ilkhom Theatre - founded 1976. One of the first independent theatre collectives in the former Soviet Union. The only independent theatre collective in Uzbekistan. 180-200 performances per year. More than 25 000 spectators per year. 5 international theatre and music festivals per year. 6-7 art and photo exhibits per year. 90 people in the theatres staff. For the last 10 years the performances of the Ilkhom Theatre have been presented at over 40 international theatre festivals in 21 countries of the world, including USA, Japan, Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Holland, Denmark and others. Recipient of over 10 prestigious international prizes, including: Action (Akciya) Award (2006), awarded by the commission of the president of the Russian Federation department of culture and art, in support of the Theatres initiative to create the Laboratory for Young Directors from Central Asia and Kazakhstan.
