HISTORY 1945 - Moshe (Morris) Rosenfeld and son-in-law Arthur Waltuck start Standard Junk Company on Front Avenue in SW Portland. 1947 - Young son and grandson Leland Waltuck begins coming down to work on Saturdays at age 6. 1952 - The company name is changed to Standard Steel & Metal Company to reflect an emphasis on steel. 10/1/1989 - Leland Waltuck, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, starts over, forming and opening a small operation called The Steel Yard.
