Theun-Hinboun Power Company

THPC, the Theun-Hinboun Power Company, was established in 1994 as the first independent power producer in the Lao PDR. Its original 220-MW hydropower plant made a significant contribution to Lao economic stability and growth from 1998-2012. In early 2013 THPC opened a 280-MW expansion project and, following a major overhaul of the original turbines in 2016-17, its combined plant has a capacity of 520 MW - the third biggest hydropower facility in Laos. THPC is owned by three companies: EDL-Generation of Laos with 60%, and GMS International and SN Power, each with a 20% stake. It currently employs about 300 people, at its main site in Khammouane Province and at the head office in Vientiane. Over 99% of personnel are Lao. THPC invests in its staff.
