Tlcho Government

The Tlcho Government is governed by the Tlcho Constitution. The Constitution establishes our government under the authority of an Assembly. The Grand Chief, community Chiefs and representative Councillors of Behchoko, Gameti, Wekweeti and Whati sit on the Assembly. The Chiefs Executive Council oversee the administration of the Government through the work of the Tlcho Executive Officer. The Tlcho Agreement was negotiated by the Dogrib Treaty 11 Council, the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), and the Government of Canada. It is the first combined comprehensive land claim and self-government agreement in the Northwest Territories. In 2005 the Tlcho Nation ratified the Tlcho Agreement, a modern Treaty with the Government of Canada. The agreement provides and defines certain rights relating to lands, resources and self-government. A vision is our guide to what we believe is most important.
