Township of Nipigon

Nipigon is a picturesque, multicultural community situated at the Northern tip of Lake Superior. Our township, centrally located in relation to the vast lands of Canada, intercepts the Trans-Canada Highway 17 and the junction to Highway 11, crossing over the mighty Nipigon River. With over 300 years of history, Nipigon is laced with stories of the fur trade, building the railway, the influx of migrant workers, the construction of the highway, an abundance of fishing in days gone by, and the expansion of the logging drive. Nipigons major assets are identified as its strategic geographic location in the centre of Canada, close proximity to the United States border; rich and bountiful natural resources - clean air, fresh water, wilderness, and wildlife.
