The JCU Townsville Fire is the only female professional sporting team of any code in Northern Australia, and is driven by a passionate, dynamic and well respected Board, who are as committed and as focused as the players themselves. Having participated in the WNBL since 2001/02, a new entity - Townsville Fire Limited was awarded the license in 2011 to enable the team to continue to play in Australias pre-eminent womens basketball league. The Fire represent healthy, strong, female role models within the North Queensland community and well beyond and boast a star-studded playing roster that includes triple Olympian Suzy Batkovic and Australian Opals point guard Rachael McCully. Having contested back-to-back WNBL Grand Finals, the Fire has a proven record of creating mutually beneficial relationships between athletes, brands, media organisations, community groups and commercial rights holders.
