Tuzla International Airport was established by the Assembly of the Tuzla - Podrinje Canton with the Law on the Establishment of JP International Airport Tuzla - Dubrave Airport in 1998. Based on the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the BiH Council of Ministers and the IFOR peacekeeping forces, the same year the airport was opened for civilian air traffic and served as a joint military/civilian airport. In the period from 10.10.1998. until 01.12.2006. In 2008, JP Tuzla International Airport was closed three times to civilian air traffic by international military peacekeeping forces, which used the Dubrava air base as a priority for their own air operations. On December 1, 2006, international peacekeeping military forces completely left the Dubrava air base.
