UCCLA (Union of Cities Capitals in the Portuguese-speaking world) is a non-profit Portuguese Association funded in 1985 by the Engineer Nuno Cruz Abecasis (former Maier of Lisbon ) who succeeded in creating an of the The main objective was to create an institutional platform in order to facilitate synergies between the Capitals Portuguese-speaking countries. In 1985, UCCLA was composed of 7 capitals which were: Bissau (Guinea Bissau), Lisbon (Portugal), Maputo (Mozambique), Praia (Cape Verde), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Sao Tome (Sao Tome and Principe) and Macau (China). During the last 25 years UCCLAs effective membership overpassed 30 cities of the Portuguese-speaking world, from Brazil to Macau. It also has more than 30 private members.
