Ujjain Engineering College, formerly known as Government Engineering College, Ujjain, was set up by the Government of Madhya Pradesh in 1966, is a place of quality engineering education in the region of central India. Earlier the aim of establishing this college was to improve the technical education in the region of Malwa. In 1997 the M.P. Government recognised this college as an autonomous institution and in 2010 Rajiv Gandhi Technical University, Bhopal has granted academic autonomy to this college. Under this arrangement, it is governed by a governing body, whose Chairman is the minister of Technical Education And Skill Development Department of Govt. of M.P., and Secretary is Principal of the college.
