UKA - Norways Largest Cultural Festival UKA is a traditional, yet inventive, cultural festival. A phenomenon to many, it serves as a holiday in the middle of the fall term. Every other year fireworks light up the sky above Studentersamfundet, Trondheims Student Society, to kick off what 1700 students have volunteered their time to achieve. The student festival started off as a revue theater with the opening show Baccarat in 1917. The purpose was to bolster the Student Societys economy, a place of sanctuary, and also a workplace, for thousands of Trondheims students. The show was put up for a full week, hence the name of the festival (UKA = the week). The modern day UKA lasts for 25 days, and sold more than 100 000 tickets in 2021, making it the largest cultural festival in Norway.
