University of Derna

The University of Derna is a scientific body established by a decision of Mr. / Secretary of the General Peoples Committee No. (858) for the year 1994 in the city of Derna and named after the University of Derna. Before this date, the city of Derna had three colleges affiliated with Omar Al-Mukhtar University. In 2000, the idea of departmental universities was put forward to reduce overcrowding in basic universities and solve the problems of boarding houses and other chronic problems. Mr. / Secretary of the General Peoples Committee issued Resolution No. 308 of 2000 to establish the University of Derna with its legal and financially independent status and administratively affiliated with the Peoples Committee of the Popularity of Derna, and accordingly, Mr. / Secretary of the Peoples Committee of the People of Derna issued Resolution No. 35 of 2000 to form the Peoples Committee of the University.
