The Institute of the Environment, with its interdisciplinary mandate, is not situated in any one faculty. The IE has a 20 year history of engaging professors from across campus in interdisciplinary research and public outreach. The Institute boasts a research initiative, Sustainable Prosperity, that has helped position uOttawa as a national leader in sustainable economy and an academic initiative through the creation of the collaborative specialization in Environmental Sustainability in 2012, and a stand-alone Masters in Environmental Sustainability in 2014
