UROT (Urban Renewal Organization of Tehran)

Urban Renewal Organization of Tehran (UROT) which was established in 1968, had the aim of renewing the capital of Iran. In the beginning, reconstruction and renewal of four neighborhoods in Tehran including Oudlajan, were in progress to be designed and implemented. Although the structure of the organization and its regulations were created after insertion of 111 Article to the law of municipalities. According to this article, municipalities through establishing associations with its own budget, can purchase houses, properties, lands and old neighborhoods, and, if necessary, rebuild them in accordance with municipalitys approved plans. In the 1980s, with the occurrence of the Bam earthquake, the issue of reducing the risk of deteriorated urban areas became one of the main concerns of the country.
