The R.T. Vanderbilt Company had a modest start in 1916, with Robert Thurlow Vanderbilt selling clay to paper mills from offices in New York City. Clay for paper led to clay for rubber, which led to the development of uniquely functional minerals and chemicals. This allowed the company to direct its entrepreneurial and innovative talents toward American industry at large. In 2013, R.T. Vanderbilt Company, Inc. re-organized its corporate structure into a holding company and several subsidiaries. At that time, Vanderbilt Minerals, LLC was formed as a wholly-owned subsidiary of R.T. Vanderbilt Holding Company, Inc. and is a proudly American company with all mining and manufacturing facilities located in the United States, including New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, and California.
