WUVA

WUVA News is the newest branch of WUVA, Inc. and is a multimedia journalism organization at the University of Virginia. WUVA, Inc. was created in 1947 to educate UVA students in the art of commercial radio broadcasting. From 1947 to 1978, WUVA Radio operated as a commercial carrier-current (or closed circuit) station at the university. In 1978, WUVA obtained a FCC license to operate WUVA(FM) on 92.7mHz, and the organizations mission necessarily expanded to serve Charlottesville. With the growth of the internet, WUVAs mission sought to train students in digital media as well. Our platform for that purpose is WUVA News. In 2017, WUVA Inc. made the next generational step with its sale of the 92.7 FCC license to build WUVA News into a 21st century fully functional digital media company.
