Xiamen University (XMU), founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a renowned Malayan overseas Chinese entrepreneur and philanthropist in Southeast Asia, was the first Chinese higher educational institution established by an overseas Chinese. It is the only university in Chinas five Special Economic Zones that enjoys privileged support from Chinas Ministry of Education for participation in Project 211 and Project 985. XMU had been recognized internationally. It ranks 9th in China , 37th in Asia and 275th globally. Also 9 of XMU disciplines have been recognized as TOP 1% globally in ESI. It has been selected as 1 of the 14 Most Beautiful Campuses in the World by The Daily Telegraph, UK.
