ICL Boulby has been part of ICL Group, as ICL UK, since 2002. Its history, however, stretches back to 1968. Following a Public Inquiry, planning permission was granted to Cleveland Potash Ltd for the underground working of minerals potash and salt in an area that extended from Brotton into the National Park in East Cleveland, a range of approximately 8,200 hectares.
